Martin Luther King Day

We Have Dreams

On Martin Luther King Day we read some really inspiring books about Martin Luther King Jr.  We talked about his dream, and modeled that we are all the same on the inside by using two different color eggs and cracking them open.



...that people would treat people the same.

...that animals will be taken care of.

...that people will care for people.


We all came up with dreams for the world!  It was so awesome to see 5 and 6 year olds come up with such big dreams.  These students will make a difference!

We are Poets!

Poems in Kindergarten

The last 4 weeks our focus in language arts has been poetry.  We used instruments to make the rhythm of different poems, focused on visualizing poems, and even created a variety of our own poems! 





We started off by making list poems.  The first one was about our lunchbox.  We practiced reading them like poets. 





Our Ouch! poems was one of their favorites!  We came up with a list of all the things that made us go "ouch" then turned those into poems.  Students loved wearing their bandaids!




Next, we made our I Love poems.  The students were so engaged in poetry this day!  We ended up skipping math because the students wanted to make their final copies of their poems so bad (Don't worry, we had double math the next day :)).  Our Beach Buddies love to write!

Although our poetry unit is over, we will continue to write poems, listen to poems, and visualize poems throughout the year because WE ARE POETS!

100th Day!!

We have been trucking through kindergarten the last month and finally made it to the 100th day of school! 


 We started our day with a 100 item collection parade around the kinder/first neighborhood.  The Beach Buddies loved showing off their 100 day collections to the first graders!






The rest of our day included writing what we would do with $100, counting our collections with our learning partners, putting 100 Fruit Loops on a necklace, and putting together our 100 day snack (consisting of 100 things).  Our students said they wished every day was the 100th day! It was a great day in the Beach Buddy room!
