Let's Change the World

If I were President....
"I would change the world."  -Kendall

"I would be kind.  I would change the world."  - Julianne

" I would get the soldiers out to fight.  They would
keep us safe."  -James

" I would learn about the states, even California and Texas, and
I would learn about science."  -Kieran

"I would guard the world, make the world nice."  -Aiden

"I would learn.  I would read.  I would be nice.  I would count.
I would change the world."  -Sibley

"I would respect the world.  I would love everyone." -Brianna

"I would change the world to live in a different world, and do
what Abraham did."  -Audrey

"I would change the world.  I would read books.  I would help
people.  I would help my president...Fred."  -Joy

There is not much more to add to their sweet, innocent words.  I know these will be treasured by you forever.  If they were president....they know they can change the world!

What's the Weather?

Weather Unit:
What is more fun than experiencing every type of weather possible after having our weather unit?  In the last week- we have had rain, hail, snow, sunshine, cold weather, and warm weather.  I do believe only in Texas is where this can happen! Snow day on Friday- 75 degrees on Sunday.

*Rainbow books will be kept for the end of the year portfolio

Have you heard?

There's an Aquarium in Town!

If you have not checked out the new Austin Aquarium, you and your family must go.  We had so much fun with the hands on exhibits.  The sting rays were the favorite in our household.

Get Good Zzzz's

Testing:
Oh January.  January is a very hard and stressful month for the students and the teachers.  Testing, not one but three. The current test we are administering is the District Language Arts and Math test.  This is composed of some whole group and much one on one testing.  This test is simply testing the objectives we have learned up to this point in the year.

Next week, we will also start the Middle of the Year TPRI.  For most students, we will just be testing comprehension.  If your student was still developing at the beginning of the year, we will administer some additional testing.  All TPRI's are one on one.

Last, starting January 20th- I will be administering DRA's: updating everyone's reading levels.  This is tested one-on-one.

Although students do not need to study for these test or worry about these tests- I want to make sure everyone is getting plenty of rest at night.  Also, if your child is worried about these tests please let them know that this just helps us know how smart they are!  We will get through January together!!

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me through email.

How to....

How to Build a Snowman:
This week, your student worked really hard on their interactive writing of 'How to Build a Snowman'.  First, we roll a big snowball.  Second, we roll a medium snowball.  Third, we roll a small snowball.  Forth, we add details.

Let's Hear It

Sound

This week, we finished our 4 week science unit on Force, Energy, and Motion.  In this unit, your child learned about the different types of energy, the way objects move, and were able to explore magnets.  This week, we focused on sound.  These photos show the students going through different sound rotations.  The next day we were able to play sound B-I-N-G-O.

Next Science Unit-- Plants!

Thank you and Happy New Year

Parents, first I must tell you all thank you for the support we had with the party.  Between the supplies and volunteers (and amazing room mom), the party would not have been as great as it was for our Beach Buddies.  Also, thank you for understanding that I could not be there the whole time.  I actually ended up coming down with the flu that Friday evening (we were both down for the count). Sadly, the majority of our break was spent sick with the flu and a stomach bug which is why this thank you is so delayed.

I also need to give many many many thanks for my amazing Christmas presents! What a great idea it was to have a wreath with all the wonderful gift cards.  I have to say I had a wonderful meal at Chuy's, many trips to target, got some good reads from  Barnes and Noble, and so much more!  What a happy teacher I am!  I could not have asked for better parents this year.  Thank you for every present I received, you all went over and beyond.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

(Please stay tuned this weekend.  January is a full month of testing for our students, and I will explain the 3 tests that are being administered, along with pictures from the first week back to school.)
